Whenever I move into a new place (which is a lot), I always leave the art arranging for the last step because I like to work with my furniture layout. Sometimes thinking outside the box can not only give more value to your art but also create interest to your space. Even if it's just a large white wall with no character.
Picking one piece of furniture to surround your art around can really showcase your furniture. For example arranging art around your bed can act as a magnificent headboard.
Don't be scared to take your art all the way to the top of your walls or even close to the floor. Randomness is charming but perhaps before drilling any holes try it first with some painters tape and craft paper.
